Punta Marenco
Punta Marenco Lodge is located in a paradise, conserved for 20 years as a Biological Reserve by a family of Costa Ricans. This land was previously known as Marenco Biological Reserve, but now, by owner effort, has been declared by the government of Costa Rica as a new National Wild Life Refuge, the name of this place is now "Punta Rio Claro National Wild Life Refuge". It encompasses a 500 hectare Rain Forest with miles of pristine beaches. Because of the lack of roads or airports, the access difficulty has allowed this corner of the world to maintain its natural beauty. You'll find that getting there is part of the Punta Rio Claro adventure. With the intention of sharing with those interested in experiencing and discovering the secrets and beauty of the primary Rain Forest of Corcovado National Park and surroundings, the family decided several years ago to open a small lodge allowing people to have basic accommodations in this area.

Drake Bay Wilderness Resort
Costa Rica has become world renowned for its wealth of natural beauty, abundance of wildlife, and its dedication to the preservation of its unique and diverse ecology. No place in Costa Rica offers the visitor a better opportunity to study and appreciate the richness of this tiny nation than Drake Bay Wilderness Camp. Located on the Osa Peninsula, along Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast, Drake Bay Wilderness Camp enjoys a remote, pristine setting, while remaining easily accessible from San José. Relatively little has changed here since Sir Francis Drake visited the tiny protected bay in 1579 during his circumnavigation of the globe. Some say that Pirates have left a hidden treasure on nearby Caño Island. On our day trips to this uninhabited tropical paradise, our knowledgeable guides will teach you about the island’s unique history. Used as a burial sight by pre-columbian indigenous peoples, many graves and artifacts, including mysterious stone spheres, remain half-buried in the rain forest undergrowth. All tour packages include: chartered flights to Drake Bay airport from San Jose, complete lodging, three cooked meals per day, snacks at the bar, and daily tour activities with bilingual guides.

Maybe you are sitting in your office, or mowing your lawn, or sun-bathing on a beach back home, when all of a sudden that same feeling or energy of that place gently descends upon you out of the blue, and you find yourself drifting back into those recollections and reliving them as if it had happened just yesterday. Well, beware! This is one of the lasting side-effects of a visit to Luna Lodge, a secluded rainforest lodge set in the pristine and captivating Osa Peninsula near Corcovado National Park in southwestern Costa Rica. Luna Lodge is truly a unique experience not found elsewhere in Costa Rica or the world! Luna Lodge was constructed by Costa Rican people with the issues of conservation and preservation of the rainforest a priority. The lodge has been developed with creative initiative and commitment to the ideals of educating visitors to be environmentally and culturally sensitive. The centerpiece of Luna Lodge is the massive, traditionally constructed rancho, housing the restaurant, bar, office, kitchen, and a small gift shop. The rancho was built using tropical hardwood trees naturally fallen on the property, white cane from the rivers, and palm fronds grown right on the peninsula. The dimensions of the structure reflect those of the surrounding rainforest, with a towering roof of thatched palm fronds soaring 25 feet over one of the largest ranchos on the Osa Peninsula. The wooden deck in the front of the rancho is ideal for morning yoga, nature observation, star gazing, or just absorbing the essence of the rainforest. The restaurant, “El Eclipse Total”, is open all day and features international cuisine and a Sunday Brunch. The dining area is open and spacious, affording comfort for dozens of guests. There's even space for an occasional rainforest dance! The gift shop, “La Puertecita”, offers T-shirts, hats, writing paper, and souvenirs, but also carries necessary items such as toothpaste, film, sunblock, bug spray, flashlights, batteries, and other sundries. All you will need for your rainforest adventures and creature comforts can be found right here at the lodge. |

Iguana Lodge
Straight out of "Jungle Architectural Digest" (quoting a recent guest), the private tree-house like bungalows are steps from the most beautiful beach on the Osa Peninsula. They are set on pillars and are built with indigenous self-sustaining hardwoods bamboo, and cana-blanca. Each of our rustically luxurious two-story bungalows have beautiful bedrooms, with large orthopedic beds, Egyptian cotton sheets, soft pillows, good reading lights, and hefty fans. Each bungalow, of course, has a lovely hot-shower private bath, and some have semi-outdoor garden showers. Perhaps best of all, is your own huge private, shaded deck; you can sprawl peacefully in a swaying hammock or read a good book in a plush lounge chair as you overlook the magnificent Golfo Dulce and the lovely and fragrant tropical gardens of the Iguana Lodge. The main rancho is an awesomely impressive jungle structure. On the lower veranda breakfast and lunch are served...and major relaxation occurs. (Inside the lower story is a large kitchen and library/research area stocked full of interesting information about the rain forest...we have also been told we have one of the largest libraries in the Osa.) The upper story is where we feast every evening...it is a fantastic space, with an ocean view in a classic tropical setting under the massive palm thatched roof. We create delicious gourmet feasts on a nightly basis. The menu consists of local seafood, meats and poultry along with vegetarian dishes, fresh salads, local juices and fresh baked pastries...many with an interesting combination of "Gringo-Tico" ingredients, not to mention a few African and Indian influences. An evening menu may consist of ginger-chile grilled mahi-mahi with stuffed avocados, chipotle grilled steak with grilled bananas and palm hearts, North-African chicken with black pepper bread and hummus, and GREAT desserts (a real passion around here). For breakfast we may serve mango scones, banana crepes, stuffed French toast, a great Costa Rican "tipico" breakfast, or pineapple pancakes, along with tons of fresh fruit and Costa Rican coffee. No matter whether you spend the day repelling down waterfalls, boogie boarding in the waves, or napping on your hammock, everyone looks forward to the evening's feast.

Coloso Del Mar
Situated on one of the most beautiful black sand beaches in the world, lies our cabina & bar/restaurant setup. Located in the Golfo Dulce, our cabinas offer a tremendous view. Sitting on the beach, one can see the mouth of the Gulf, the mountainous region around us, and don't forget the beautiful Pacific Ocean. We are here to serve you, and help you get the most from your vacation. We like to think of our property as a "tropical garden right on the beach." Entering the property from the roadside, one can only see green, the effect of being in the jungle, but just a few short steps away, there is the ocean. Make sure you wear your slippers on your way to the beach as the sand gets very hot around noon!! Some of "us" are known for jumping around from shade to shade, then taking a mad dash for the ocean and its nice cooling water! There is ample parking at the entrance of the property, and a walking path only, that continues on to the cabinas. This is done in order to keep the cabin areas as quiet as possible, and so that no one is bothered by anyone else's headlights shining in the cabins. Don't be surprised if you wake up one morning to the sounds of "someone" throwing things on the roof of your cabin. It is just the Titi monkeys, enjoying the fruits of our trees, they discard them wherever they feel like!! All of our cabins have a private bathroom, hot water showers, towels, a safe, screened windows, a fan, a porch, and orthopedic mattresses. The rancho is a great place to meet other guests, or to just relax with a book, yourself, or whatever you enjoy. Grab your book, crossword puzzle, or whatever you may, and make yourself comfy in one of hammocks. Just let the ocean breeze and the wonderful sounds of nature engulf you.

Cabinas Los Cocos
These lovely beachfront cabins are beautifully landscaped, surrounded by coconut palms, bamboo, flowers, and almond trees. The only things separating these cabins from the beach are the beautiful gardens...they are RIGHT ON THE BEACH. On the large decks you can sit at a table or swing on a hammock, watch the waves roll in, and the sun set. Each cabin is screened, with fan and hot showers. They each have a kitchen, with all that is needed for morning coffee or cooking your own meals, and a fridge for fruit and drinks. Each cabin is a small house with privacy and comfort. Only a two minute walk down the beach is the excellent restaurant Sol y Mar. There are also several other local restaurants, from Tico to Italian, within walking distance. Banana Cabins: Two of these cabins are quaintly restored Banana Company houses, from the days of the fruit company in Golfito. One of them is pictured at right. We moved them to Zancudo and reconstructed them to give the ambience of bygone days. They sleep three persons each, with a double and single bed, and they are very spacious. These beach cabins have tiled floors and large varnished decks overlooking the gardens to the ocean. They are well laid out and feature hand-painted furniture and lamps. Rancho Cabins: One cabin is a jewel, with a palm frond roof, and gorgeous hardwood floors. It sleeps four, with a double bed downstairs and a double bed up in the open loft. Our fourth cabin is as beautiful as the jewel. The outside features a full-size mural. It sleeps two, with one double bed. It is the same price as the jewel. On the price chart below we refer to these as Ranchos, as “rancho” in Spanish describes a palm frond roofed house.

La Purruja Lodge
Located 340 kilometers southeast of San José is the sleepy little harbor town of Golfito - one of the most beautiful settings in Costa Rica. The towns northern portion, known as the "American Zone", was formerly where the "Bananeros" or Banana Company bosses lived in a collection of classic hardwood houses. These homes reflect beautifully the tropical architecture of the 1930`s. From 1938 thru 1985, this region was important for the American company know as "United Fruit". The year 1985 was a devastating one for the company. A banana blight, labor disputes, strikes and an increase in taxes per box of bananas resulted in the decision to abandon Golfito and relocate. Within six months unemployment and poverty reigned. The managers homes were vacated and the town begann to to decay, slipping towards obscurity. In 1990 the Costa Rican government, in an attempt to instill new life into the town, established a "Duty Free" zone know as "El Deposito". It`s bargains attract both "Ticos" and forengers alike. Eco-tourism has also injected new life into this little banana town. More and more adventure travelers have discovered Golfito with it`s picturesque location and simple, inexpensive lifestyle. Rides into the Golfito Nature Reserve, hikes, the waters of the "Golfo Dulce" with world class sportfishing, surfing, swimming and a variety of so many other activities are now available to all visiting this truly unique tropical paradise. About 4 kilometers before you arrive on the Golfito waterfront, in the thiny town of La Purruja, two signs indicate the driveway leading to the absolutely enchanting setting of our small family-run hotel owned by a Swiss/ Tica couple. The driveway off the main road leads you through low walls of multicolored tropical bushes, over a small stream winding through a patch of rainforest, and up a small hill to the guest buildings and owners residence, as a pair of tame geese announces your arrival. The property is beautifully tended with expansive areas of low-cut lawns, widely spaced trees and shrubs, and backed by another small stand of rainforest. Selucion and quit are two of the hotel`s greatest assets. All rooms are very spacious with double or single beds, ceiling fans and tiled bathrooms. The large porch that runs in front of the rooms has tables and chairs for relaxing.

Lookout Inn
The Lookout Inn is located in Costa Rica on the "Osa Peninsula" at the extreme end of the road in Carate. We are ideally situated to offer comfortable eco-friendly accommodations to the traveler visiting this remote part of Costa Rica. This is the Primary Entry Point to "Corcovado National Park" which is considered one of the world's great wildlife reserves. A guided tour into the park is an unforgettable experience. Venture away from the comfort of the Lookout Inn each morning and enjoy the Largest Protected Tract of Pacific Coast Rainforest remaining in the Western Hemisphere, and yet return to a comfortable room at the end of a long day of exploring. The wildlife here is absolutely extraordinary, the plant life more diverse than you will find anywhere in the world, and the butterflies, other insects and birds will just blow you away. The grounds of the Lookout Inn are surrounded by beautifully manicured flowering hibiscus which create trails from the roaring Pacific Ocean to the cool fresh water swimming pool and wooden staircase that takes you up to the most spectacular ocean views you'll see in the area. While enjoying a cool drink and a dip in the pool you can feast your eyes on the creative landscaping that includes a variety of flowers, fruit trees, amazing bird life and more. Perched on the side of a steep hill right above the road and expansive beach, the inn commands an absolutely Spectacular View of the surrounding rain forest, endless coast line and of course, the majestic Pacific Ocean. The property covers 8 acres, peaking on top of it's own ridge high above the ocean. The structure is a combination of American Southwest and Tropical, with stucco walls featuring arched doorways and windows complete with tropical hardwood trimmings and accents. Sandalwood plays an important part in the aesthetics. There are six private guest rooms, each having it's own spacious bathroom, hot water shower, and fan. The tile floors and baths add a luxurious touch. The custom made doors are uniquely carved by a local craftsman and a creative artist has done some lovely mural work on the insides of the rooms. The furniture, which includes armoires, tables, chairs, and queen sized beds are a mix of bamboo, wicker, and indigenous woods. You don't ever have to rough it here if you don't want to. A solar power system supplies plenty of power for lights, fans and 110 volt outlets. A satellite telephone is also available for your convenience. The rooms are kept cool and quiet by the concrete construction, 10 foot high ceilings, and lack of direct sunlight. The cascading hot tub overlooks the flora and sea. The second story has the kitchen, covered deck, lounging room with stereo and a large library specializing in natural history and Costa Rica in particular. An artistically crafted spiral staircase in the kitchen leads to the open-air observation deck where the breathtaking vista can be zoomed in on using a high powered telescope. There is also an observation bar here as well as under-roof seating for your dining pleasure. Part of the deck is open to the sun and all is surrounded by a beautiful balustrade of natural driftwood. Recent new additions to the Lookout Inn include a spacious deck in front of the guest rooms for lounging or candlelit dining, a massive wooden staircase that spans from the new deck down to the gardens and beach below, a spacious private bungalow separate from the main house, and a cascading hot tub that overlooks the views of the gardens. We have built 2 cabinas (images below) and each have a bathroom with hot water, private balconies and hammocks. There are paths to the beach, pool & house.
