| Chachagua Rainforest Hotel is nestled in the eastern foothills of the Tilaran mountain range, one of the most biologically diverse areas of Costa Rica. It is just a two hour drive via paved road from San Jose and yet it's at the end of the road, with pristine rainforest beyond. The privately owned and maintained rainforest of Chachagua is contiguous to the International Children's Rainforest, which in turn is neighbor to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Among the many still common species of animals that are residents of the forest at Chachagua are white-faced monkeys, keel-billed toucans, blue morpho butterflies and bright red poison-dart frogs. Part of Chachagua's property is maintained as a working ranch and a variety of fruits and vegetables are produced by the farm. Beef, poultry, eggs, milk and cheese are also produced. Horses and cattle are part of the ranch and so the dining room has been designed overlooking a riding ring where expert horsemen put local mounts through their paces. Each suite is tastefully appointed and has a ceiling fan and a porch area designed to enhance nature viewing. Bathrooms have plenty of hot water. Chachagua has a series of trails designed to allow you to experience the rainforest wildlife. In addition, horseback riding excursions are also available. Chachagua is well located to act as a base of exploration.
