Rara Avis was developed for the sole purpose show that it is possible to help make the rainforest economically productive and to save it from destruction. Even Getting There is an Adventure
All good things don’t come easy! At Rara Avis Costa Rica Rainforest Lodge, the access is not easy. This is the reason why Rara Avis has remained pristine and untouched. Once you have arrived in Las Horquetas de Sarapiqui, a tractor-pulled cart will be waiting. Now start your 3 hours long, 15 km trip ahead (or by horse upon request!). Following the adventurous tractor ride, you will be required to take part in hiking the last three kilometers through a deep jungle trail to finally arrive at Rara Avis.

Rara Avis offers a variety of activities and tours that will expand your knowledge and satisfy you crave for adventure. Rara Avis has an extensive variety of trails and nature walks throughout the forest. Some easy and some not so easy! You are free to hike alone or with an experienced guide to help you see and understand all the incredible things the jungle has to offer. Located near the Braulio Carrillo National Park, Rara Avis features many streams and breathtaking waterfalls along the property. After a jam-packed day, you have the chance to take a dip in large crystalline pools or swimming at a beautiful cascade. In the heart of the rainforest, Rara Avis also holds the homes of many wildlife, allowing you to see a variety of monkeys, birds, jungle cats, insects, and reptiles. Come by and see it for yourself!
